August 2005: Dr. Floyd Willis, a family medicine physician, and Kelvin Buncum met to brainstorm potential software applications to streamline and improve patient access to medical data and educational material, with the goal of improving patient care, chronic disease literacy and staff productivity.
November 2005: Jaime Mitchell joined the brainstorming sessions to assess the technical feasibility
April 2006: Original product concept for the Mobile Patient Communicator (MPC) was conceived and within months the idea for a wireless patient access system and interactive training device for patients was becoming a reality.
November 2006: Jaime Mitchell joined the team full-time to work on product research, software development, and computing and networking capabilities for the MPC concept.
July 2007: After months of software development and hardware vetting, the first working alpha model of the MPC system was produced and initial hardware and network compatibility testing began.
November 2007: The principals conduct a demonstration of a working MPC prototype to physicians at a highly distinguished healthcare provider for initial review, examination and to solicit feedback.
May 2008: An early working beta model of the MPC was shown to select audiences.
June 2008: Principals officially established International Medical Solutions, LLC.
July 2008: Provisional patent filed for the Mobile Patient Communicator.
August 2008: Kelvin Buncum leaves the Pepsi Bottling Group to work full-time with IMS and devote his full attention to commercialization of the MPC, healthcare industry research, market analysis and business development. The trademark for the Mobile Patient Communicator is officially registered. The principals make the first MPC product presentation to a prospective customer.
September 2008: A thorough proposal to test the functionality and feasibility of the MPC in an outpatient setting is presented to overseeing physicians at a nationally ranked healthcare provider.
October 2008: International Medical Solutions becomes a platinum member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS)
January 2009: Following thorough private testing, live use and patient trialing of the MPC Self-Rooming application begins in the family medicine clinic at a nationally ranked healthcare provider.
February 2009: Kelvin Buncum and Jaime Mitchell present and demonstrate the MPC at the Health Systems Institute, a multi-institutional and interdisciplinary initiative in Atlanta based at Georgia Tech and Emory University.
February 17, 2009: President Obama announces the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, part of a $19 billion direct funding initiative to invest in technologies and solutions that have "meaningful" impact on improving the nation's healthcare system.
March 2009: International Medical Solutions begins commercialization efforts by launching its web site, www.ims-mpc.com and announcing the MPC at cardiology and healthcare IT industry trade shows.
April 2009: The MPC is formally launched in a special "New Solutions" presentation at the annual HIMSS conference, the nation's largest gathering of professionals pursuing the optimal use of healthcare IT and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.
